Presentations The Impact of Regulatory Compliance on Database Administration Governmental regulations are increasing in number, and many of them impact the way organizations must treat their data. Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, BASEL II, and more make the news, but what do they mean to a DBA? And what steps do we need to take to be in compliance? This presentation will offer an overview of the regulations and their impact on database administration. Topics to be discussed include: * What are the Regulations? Data Gathering for DB2 Performance Tuning and Health Checks This presentation deals with what data should be gathered for DB2 health check and performance tuning on a regular basis on a System z platform. Many installations do not gather all of the data necessary to adequately troubleshoot issues, usually after the problem has occurred. The presentation will examine settings which need to be in place for DB2, Workload Manager (WLM), and the Systems management Facility (SMF). It will show nondisruptive techniques (other than a trace) for finding high CPU/high I/O DB2 objects. It will present introductory information on WLM for the DB2 person and what is important, touching on spreadsheet reporter. Finally, it will show cross-checking methods when trying to find DB2 bottlenecks. The introduction will describe the top 5 performance issues seen in most DB2 installations. All techniques shown are totally non-invasive and will not effect system performance.
